Ewaldi Community School in Nakaseke District, Uganda Training

October 2023
We are excited to announce the launch of an innovative project at Ewaldi Community School, located north of Kampala, Uganda, that has been in motion since the beginning of October 2023. This transformative initiative is centered on the establishment of a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) waste treatment center right on the school grounds. Our goal with this project is to introduce students to the principles of a circular economy, empowering them with hands-on experience in sustainable agricultural practices. By utilizing nature-based solutions, we aim to equip the children with practical skills that will benefit both their education and their community. The Black Soldier Fly waste treatment center is more than just a sustainability initiative—it’s a learning tool and an opportunity for empowerment. Within a few short months, the students themselves will take charge of operating the center, instilling a sense of responsibility and ownership. Through this process, they will produce high-quality animal feed and fertilizer for the school farm, creating a self-sustaining loop of waste management and agricultural productivity. Beyond its environmental impact, this project also has far-reaching economic benefits.

The production of animal feed and fertilizer will generate income for the school, paving the way for long-term financial independence and resilience. This initiative highlights how sustainable practices can create real opportunities for growth and prosperity. As we witness the ongoing progress at Ewaldi Community School, we are reminded of the transformative power of education and experiential learning. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for these students and their community. Stay tuned as we continue to build a foundation for sustainability and empowerment through this exciting project.
